How much Texas gets

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced on August 26, 2026 that Meta will pay "over $1 billion" to Texas [1]. Bloomberg Law, citing records obtained from the AG's office, reported the deal as $1.05 billion, rising to as much as $1.335 billion if other platforms agree to the same terms [2].

Is Texas part of the multistate Meta settlement?

Not in the filed version. Texas negotiated its own deal outside the coalition [2]. The coalition's payment table (Exhibit B) as filed lists 51 jurisdictions and doesn't include Texas. Texas appears only on the list of states eligible to join later [3][4].

Unverified: a Kentucky legislative briefing says Texas has "since joined" through a side deal that "substantially adopts" the agreement's terms, with its allocation to be added to Exhibit B by amendment [5]. We haven't found an amended Exhibit B or a court filing confirming that, so this page treats Texas's money as a separate deal.

What the money is for

According to the AG's office, the payment will fund "remediation efforts including youth mental health services, crisis resources, digital literacy initiatives, after-school programs, and grants for Texas schools" [1].

The Texas deal also requires Meta to adopt teen protections: stricter age assurance, a two-hour daily limit for teens, notifications off by default during school hours unless a parent changes them, likes and reactions hidden by default, and a nighttime mode [1].

Who decides?

The AG's office named the uses above [1]. As of October 30, 2026, we haven't found a published spending plan, a legislative appropriation, or a named state agency to run the programs. Treat the timing and the agency as unknown.

Texas and TikTok

Texas is also suing TikTok. On September 10, 2026, a Travis County judge found TikTok liable on two Deceptive Trade Practices Act claims. Penalties weren't decided [6][7]. On September 29, a state appeals court paused the trial proceedings while it considers TikTok's motions [7]. No TikTok money has been awarded to Texas.
