Kansas Social Media Settlement Funds:The Meta Settlement and What Comes Next

On this page
Last updated October 30, 2026. Kansas has not published a final spending plan. We'll update this page as plans are announced.
Kansas is part of the multistate Meta settlement over harms to young people's mental health. Here's what the state gets, who decides how it's spent, and how a youth campaign can reach Kansas families offline.
Kansas's share of the Meta settlement
- Amount: Kansas will receive more than $134 million over ten annual installments [1][2], plus about $6 million for the related Cambridge Analytica claims [1]. That's about $140 million guaranteed in total. If the settlement's contingent payments are ever triggered, the maximum is about $198 million [3].
- Where it goes: the Kansas terms direct the money into the Attorney General's Public Protection Consumer Education and Enforcement Fund or a consumer protection account, at the AG's discretion [1][3].
- Status: the Legislature's Legislative Budget Committee scheduled a "Meta Settlement Funding Plan" presentation for October 26, 2026 [4]. We haven't seen a published outcome yet.
Who decides?
Reaching Kansas kids and parents where they are
A youth online-safety campaign has an obvious tension: it has to reach kids and parents about screens without relying only on screens. In Kansas, place-based options include:
- K-12 schools, including elementary, middle and high schools, which reach parents and kids at the ages where gaming and chat-safety messages land.
- Community and recreation centers, where teens and families spend after-school and weekend time.
- Daycare and childcare centers for parents of younger kids at drop-off and pick-up.
- Pediatric offices, part of a 7,500+ office network, where parents are already thinking about their child's wellbeing, plus clinic staff lounges for providers.
- Gas stations and convenience stores across rural Kansas and the Wichita, Topeka and Kansas City markets.
- Grocery stores, where households shop every week.
